Fix Chamber Dashboard emails not being delivered
Chamber Dashboard invoices, admin email notifications are not being sent or they are being sent, but not delivered.
WordPress is notoriously bad at sending emails. WordPress uses the PHP Mail function to send emails, which can sometimes take hours to deliver and often arrives in the junk folder. There is also a good chance that emails sent to popular email providers (gmail.com, hotmail.com, etc.) will be blocked before even reaching the recipient.
The first thing to do is to check to see if your site is sending any emails at all. If your site is not sending any notification emails, the most common reason for this is that your WordPress hosting server is not configured to use PHP mail() function.
The easiest way to fix this is to install an SMTP plugin and use your organization’s email server rather than your WordPress host to send emails instead. To find the SMTP plugin that works best for you, go to WordPress.org/plugins and do a search for SMTP.
Test WordPress Email
Try the handy Check Email plugin to test whether email is sending at all from your site. You can download the Check Email plugin for free from the WordPress Plugin Repository. This is a simple plugin that will test whether your WordPress installation and or server can send emails.
Once you have installed & activated the plugin, go to Tools, enter your email address and click ‘Send test Email’.
Once you see the confirmation message, check your inbox to see if you received the test email. The subject line will start “Test email from ……” Be sure to check your spam folder if you do not see the email in your inbox. If you received an email that means that WordPress can send emails just fine from your web server.
Check for a plugin conflict
If your site can send email, but your Chamber Dashboard plugins are still not sending notification emails, the next thing to do is to check for a potential conflict with your theme or another plugin that you have installed.
To check for a conflict, temporarily switch to the TwentyNinteen theme and deactivate all except Chamber Dashboard plugins. Then test to see if notification emails are sending.
If Chamber Dashboard notification emails are still not sending, please contact us and let us know that you ran the tests above and what issues you found and we will help you.
Keep in mind that there are a variety of emails that may be sent from your website, from registration notifications to new comment submissions, to contact form entries, etc. So even if your site AND Chamber Dashboard are sending emails, you may still want to consider an SMTP plugin to make sure all of your notification emails get delivered in a timely fashion!
