Let’s face it, sometimes it takes a few weeks to get your new site setup exactly how you want it. But this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t start using your site right away to start building your audience even before it is launched.
Set up a professional looking ‘Coming Soon’ page so that when people visit your new URL, they can start getting to know what your organization is all about. A domain name, hosting and a fresh WordPress install is all you need!
A simple pre-launch web page is a fun and effective way to build brand exposure even before your site is actually ready for release. Use it to engage visitors, make them curious and excited to become a member of your new organization.
There are a variety of WordPress plugins that make setting up a landing page quick and easy. We will demonstrate how to use one of the most popular ones below, but there are lots of options. We encourage you to explore the WordPress Plugin Repository to find one that works best for your project.
Create an easy coming soon webpage
There are a variety of ways to add a ‘Coming Soon’ page to your site. But the easiest way is to install a simple plugin that does exactly what you need and then delete it when you are finished to keep your site tidy and running efficiently.
How to setup an Under Construction page
One of our favorite plugins to setup a pre-launch page is Minimal Coming Soon & Maintenance Mode, by WebFactory. Not only is it free, but we like it because setup is simple.
To get started:
- Login to your site’s dashboard.
- Go to Plugins >> Add New.
- Do a search for ‘Minimal Maintenance’.
- Then install and activate the plugin.
Once the plugin has been installed, from your site’s dashboard, go to Settings >> Maintenance Mode to enable maintenance mode. Be sure to save your settings.
Next, click on the ‘Email’ tab to connect to your Mailchimp newsletter.
Then click on the ‘Design’ tab to add a logo, favicon and background image to your ‘Coming Soon’ or ‘Under Construction’ page.
That’s it! With maintenance mode ON, click on the lock icon to login and you will be able to see both the front end and dashboard of your site. But your visitors will see only your ‘New Site Coming Soon’ page until you turn maintenance mode OFF.
Add Newsletter Signup to New Site Landing Page
To add a newsletter signup option to your ‘Coming Soon’ page,
First: Use the Exclude pages from Maintenance mode settings to make sure your visitors will be able to access the page you direct them to…either Contact Us or Newsletter Signup page.
Second: Add a link to your Newsletter Signup page to the description section of the maintenance mode settings page. Try styling your link as a button!
